One of the great things that Quartzsite does for it's visitors is this Guide. Using this Guide Book will make it possible for our visitors to find all the attractions in the area. Day Trips, Business Locations, RV Parks and much more are clearly listed in the book.

The town will also publish a Show Guide listing all the vendors by product and location. The Book will also include a map with all show locations prominently marked.

These Guides are always free. You will find them in businesses and vendor tents all over town. If you have any problems finding them call the Town Hall at 928-927-4333 to request a Guide.

Listed below you will find some links to web sites helpful to visitors in the area. There is so much to see and do in Quartzsite that you don't want to miss out on any of it.

Remember 'Quartzsite is not in the middle of nowhere It's in the middle of everywhere' .

QUARTZSITE AND THE VENDERS

Quartzsite in January is one of the most unusual sights any RVer can see. The whole town is a giant trading mart under canvas. The Arizona Tourist Bureau estimates that over 4 million visitors come through Quartzsite during the winter season with the visitor numbers peaking in the two weeks during which the BIG RV TENT and the POW WOW shows are being held.

The shows in Quartzsite are large numbers of venders grouped and organized under different show lot names. You have Prospector's Panorama, Rice Ranch, Tyson Wells, Main Event, Desert Gardens, and many other show lots. This year there are over 1700 venders in town plus year round Quartzsite businesses.

When you visit Quartzsite, keep in mind that all the show lots are open from January first to February 28
Some open in the fall and some stay until April. The shows are open 7 days a week from sunrise apx. to sunset apx. High winds or dust storms will cause some of the venders to close up to save their tents, but for the most part they are always open.

Quartzsite is a jumping off point for many interesting day trips. Old ghost towns WWII training grounds, complete with abandoned tanks used by Patton to train his tank troops, old gold mines, Indian artifacts and paintings and old west sites. Plus all the Casinos from Parker to Yuma.
Most people say that they either love or hate Quartzsite, but all agree it is a sight not to be missed.

DESERT GARDENS WINS TROPHY
Santa Claus arrived in Quartzsite at the annual Christmas Lights Parade sponsored by the Quartzsite Business Chamber of Commerce.The Parade was beautiful with over 50 lighted float entries. Desert Gardens entry, a prairie wagon with silhouette figures of homesteaders took first prize in the RV Park category.Happy Holidays to all!

TRICK OR TREAT IS A VERY BIG DEAL EVERYONE GETS INTO THE ACT

Halloween in Quartzsite is a whole Town celebration. All the kids are escorted by Police Cars and Fire Engines. The sirens and flashing lights can be heard for miles. Over 200 kids are escorted through town and big RV Parks stopping everywhere to off load and collect goodie bags. Every Park and Town Business packs a couple of hundred bags filled with donated candy. My Home Park participates in this each year and it's so much fun. The kids come parading through our club house and they are so excited and so cute that its hard to discribe.

QUARTZSITE IN THE FALL... IT'S ALL ABOUT THE SHOW SEASON

Things are starting to happen in Quartzsite. People are busy getting ready for the
new season. Show Season 2008-2009 is starting out with a bang. Most of the shows
are already booked solid and new and exciting vendors will be coming in.
Plans are in place for the Famous Hi Jolly Daze Parade, The Christmas Lights
Parade and the longest ATV Parade. Each year the ATV Parade gets closer to breaking the world record for the LONGEST ATV PARADE...Maybe this will be the year .
Be sure to bring your ATV and join the Parade to break the world record . While Main Street is still looking mighty lonesome, things are starting to change. Soon enough you won't be able to get across Main Street for all the traffic. So give into your Hitch Itch and plan to join us in Quartzsite for a week,or a month or longer. QUARTZSITE IS COOLING OFF

We had some big wind storms last month. Wind storms in Quartzsite mean dust, lots of dust. But all is calm now and with the last rains of the season, the dust is gone too. People are settling down to setting up for the winter season. The snow birds are returning and the town is starting to hum. The best thing is the weather. After a long hot summer I always welcome the return of the magical fall weather in Quartzsite. Long sunny warm days followed by cool dry nights. You just can't beat it! The cactus are blooming, the air smells sweet and the sunsets are one of a kind. Each night we sit on the porch and watch the show. Our 40 odd armed catcus looks a little the worst for wear, but like the rest of us it just keeps on, keeping on.

QUARTZSITE STORMS AND COYOTES

The storm ends but no pot of gold

WOW I snapped the clouds from my front porch and it was windy and noisy and it hailed.........
I got the lighting shot off the net... that's just what it looked like here but my camera wasn't fast enough to snap it so I looked for one that would show you what the sky looked like.

A lot of storms came through here in September. While the Southeast was struggling with "IKE" we had tropical storm Lowell and the influence of "IKE" and who knows what else. I guess it was just the end of the monsoon season...but it was not nice. We lost the electricity several times. Once the whole town was out for two or three days. This is always a big problem here. With temps. in the triple digits and no air-conditioning it tends to get uncomfortable. Of course since the whole area is on well water when the electric goes out so do the well pumps .. . ergo no water either. Most wise people keep a back-up generator handy. Since my husband is a mechanic ours was not on line. You know what they say about shoemakers children... The town was great, they did well- checks and transported people in need to cool shelters. They also supplied free water and ice and delivered it to your door. Our Park was great also . It supplied more water and ice and at one point offered free motel rooms for those who couldn't stand it any more. That's the nice thing about small towns like Q-ville, we look after each other. There was a lot of high winds and some damage. Now that we are heading into October, the beautiful winter weather of Quartzsite is asserting itself. The nights are cooling down and the swamp cooler does a good job keeping the day time cool. I really don't like air conditioning. It's expensive and you have to keep the house shut up or pay to cool all of outdoors. With the swampie, all the doors and windows stay open and it smells fresh and clean.

After the storms were over I noticed some new wild life in our area. The coyotes go into the hills during the summer and when they start to come back you know fall is on it's way. Sandy sent me these pictures. First she finds a snake in the clubhouse and then she sees the coyote wandering around in the back. Now Sandy is not a wild life lover. She thinks they belong in the desert. But frist while she was standing on top of her desk and then when she was standing atop her truck, she got these nice snaps of life as we know it in Desert Gardens. Thanks Sandy

RVers in Quartzsite

Rvers in Quartzsite is what it's all about, and September is when the locals start to plan for the new show season. The summer heat is starting to cool, the kids are back in school and everyone starts to think about the new year. In Quartzsite, the year doesn't start on Jan 1. In Quartzsite it starts when the season starts. Our year is labeled The 2008-2009 season. I just love it here when Season starts. This sleepy little town starts to hop. The snowbirds come back, the visitors start to arrive and the tents start to go up. During the summer Quartzsite looks like an abandoned outdoor movie theater. Nothing but miles and miles of little posts in the ground. During Season every post has an RV hooked to it. The desert comes alive also. Miles and miles of RVs hooked to nothing. Solar panels and generators; the world of the dry camper. Did I mention that Paul and I dry-camped out side of Quartzsite? Yep, Right out on La Posa South. We did that every year for 12 years. I still miss it out there, but town is nice too.

The desert is just about finished blooming for now. The rains are almost over and the heat and dryness will do all the flowers in. Its beautiful this time of year even if it is hot and muggy. Right now all the planning is for the new show season. We are fixing up, painting up and cleaning up inside the Park and all over Quartzsite others are doing the same.

September in Quartzsite is a time of waiting. Waiting for the monsoon to be over, waiting for the humidity to drop, waiting for the temperature to drop into the single digits and waiting for the Snowbirds to start returning. It;s quit here now. Almost all the stores are closed and only 2 or 3 restaurants are opened. The town shuts down by 7:30 every night and if it wasn't for the lights on the Interstate you would think there was nobody here at all.

The sunsets are beautiful. With all the humidity in the air(I bet we get all the way up to 32%) the colors are not to be believed. The southwest is famous for its sunsets and it deserves to be. We sit and watch the show from our porch every night.

QUARTZSITE DOINGS IN AUGUST

Being in Quartzsite for the summer is a challenge. Now, it's not as bad as northern Illinois in the winter, but the heat takes some getting use to. Today it is 113 on my front porch and the poor swamp cooler cant keep up, so its on with the air conditioner. Quartzsite is in the middle of the MONSOON SEASON and the high humidity defeats the poor swampy. This time of year you understand why they call it a "swamp cooler." MONSOON is when it rains in the desert. The rest of the year is as dry as popcorn. But, then the desert will bloom and that is a sight to see.

I reside in Quartzsite Desert Gardens RV Park. When we stopped full-timing, we bought a small mobile home and settled down to the good life. And, a good life it is. I cant imagine living anywhere else in the US, and believe me, after 15 years of traveling full time I have been around a lot.

For those of you who know Quartzsite and/or me and Desert Gardens RV Park, I will keep you up to date on the comings and goings of the town. Anyone interested in Quartzsite, feel free to ask questions.
